Happy Weekend, Gene!
I hope you're having a nice one.
A funny thing happened today when I went to my braider to get
my hair done. I brought that weft you gave me to show her.
Of course, she gushed on and on about how great it was. Then
she sewed it right in to my head and told me I really need to
have this kind of weft from now on because it is so much better
than the wefting from EP. She kept going on about how great
your Russian hair and the weft were, and finally asked me who
I got them from. As soon as I said, "This wonderful guy named
Gene," she started laughing. Then she told me that she knows
you. She told me to go right home and email you, to say
"Hello" from Lisa from Jamaica who spent last Fourth of July
with you and …. and …... She said she had a wonderful
time that day, and that dancing with you was the highlight of
her day. I'm thinking you can't help but remember such a
beautiful woman in a white dress. Small world, isn't it? = )
Anyway, I have that weft in and am amazed at how much smaller
and flatter and more comfortable it makes the tract. I want to
replace my other tracts with your nice wefts when I go back to
Lisa in eight weeks.
I'd like to place an order with you now
for some more custom wefts, if that's okay.
I'll need 12" long
hair (after wefting) that is just like the hair on the weft you
sent me -- auburn color, straight texture. I'll need two wefts
14" wide and one 15" wide. Please let me know the total cost
and the best way to charge my credit card for my order. If
you have the number from my previous order and can handle it
that way it is fine with me. Just let me know.
Now I have one more thing to write about on my site--how my
braider really didn't like the EP wefting for a sew-in and how
she LOVED the weft from http://www.russianhair.net/. Of course I'll have
to add how much nicer this weft is when sewn in. Oh dear,
I am going to cause some people to become very pissed off!
Lisa only had very nice things to say about you. She also told
me you're tall. I myself am 6' barefoot so I appreciate other
tall people. I wouldn't be surprised if you hear from Lisa
yourself before too long. I think she's sold on your hair and
your wefts for her Caucasian clients. She took a picture of my
hair today to use on her website.
I'll await information from you about my order. Thanks, as
always, for being there. It looks like my forum will be going live
sometime during the next week. I'll let you know when we have
a better idea of an exact date and time. It should be fun!

There seems to be an
increased interest in the sew-in technique of hair extensions
lately amongst Caucasian women on the hair forums. I have just
finished wearing my first installation of extension hair by
this method and thought I’d write about my experience.
I had been wearing weft
extensions that I had attached with glue or tape since Feb.
2006. My signature at the end of this post has a link to my
Fotki albums where you can track the progress of my hair
growth from a short pixie to below shoulder length. Recently,
I had grown tired of dealing with the hassle and damage of
these methods of extension installation. I had also purchased
beautiful Russian hair that I didn’t want ruined by contact
with glue or tape.
My hair came from http://www.russianhair.net/. I bought it in
bulk and had it machine-wefted by EP. I’m in the process of
switching to http://www.russianhair.net/ custom micro wefts after my braider
explained to me that they make much smaller, flatter tracks
for sew-ins. As of my second sew-in I am now wearing one track
of http://www.russianhair.net/ weft and will be
switching out the other two doubled EP tracks with my next
install. I have about 4 oz. of 14” straight textured Russian
hair, which ended up at about 12” wefted. I purchased it in a
virgin medium brown and dyed it to a deep copper-brown with
Schwarzkopf Igora 4-57.
I found my
braider on the Internet. Her name is Lisa Brown and she is at
http://www.jamaicanbraids.com./ Her shop is
located in Newport Beach, CA. Lisa charges me $65/ braid. We
experimented with placement of the tracks and have ended up
after two installs with a pattern of three long braids,
temple-to-temple. Lisa suggested a “swoop” pattern at the end
of the top braid to put more hair in a natural pattern around
my face. I have to say this is a brilliant way to make the
hair fall in a more natural and flattering direction.
My first sew-in took about an hour. I was very nervous
going in the first time because I had heard so many bad weave
horror stories. But Lisa clearly understood what I was looking
for and made me feel comfortable that she knew what she was
doing. She used braiding hair to reinforce the braids. I
thought that the braids would be larger, but they were tiny!
She stitched and stitched, reinforcing the braids with thread.
Then she sewed each weft in. My
scalp felt quite tight during the process. I was afraid it
would end up feeling too tight to be comfortable, but the
tight feeling passed within a day. Here is a picture of what
the final tracks with Russianhair.net’s micro weft looks like when it is done.
Notice how tiny and flat it is!
After a day
with my sew-in I started feeling a bit itchy. My scalp was a
little pink in a few spots so I dabbed them with witch hazel
and this helped. The itchiness got worse when my scalp was
wet, but getting conditioner into the braids made it feel
better. How nice not to have to worry about conditioner
affecting the bonds! The itchiness completely passed within a
week.
I found this method so much lighter and more
comfortable to wear than tape or glue. As the hair grew out,
the tracks moved very freely. After about two weeks I got
scared that they were falling out. When adhesive-attached
wefts get this loose, they’re headed for the shower floor! But
I discovered that the looseness of a sew-in just makes the
hair more comfortable and does nothing to decrease the wear
time.
I washed my hair every 5-6 days, but also
shampooed just the top one time in between full shampoos. Each
time I got my hair wet I blow-dried with a round brush until
it was sleek and shiny. I found a great new protective product
that helps keep the ends from getting split and keeps the
overall texture of the hair satiny. It is Schwarzkopf Bonacure
Sealed Ends. This and a little leave-in conditioner (I’m using
Kadus Revital Mousse at the moment) has kept my Russian hair
in exactly the same condition it was when I got it.
This hair is amazing! I’ve had more compliments in the
last six weeks than I got in the whole time I wore my Indian
extensions. The texture matches mine so well that styling is a
breeze. On non-shampoo mornings, I wake up, run a brush
through it, and I’m good to go for the day! I’ve read that
Russian hair is supposed to tangle more because it is so fine
and has its whole cuticle intact, but I’ve had no problem with
tangles. I like brushing through the hair a few times a day
with a boars’ bristle brush to keep it sleek but that’s about
it for day-to-day care. I decided to return to Lisa to
have my hair taken out and redone at six weeks so she could
evaluate how my tracks were holding out. This is one of my
braids at the end of six weeks:
I was
thrilled to hear that even though they felt very loose the
wefts were still firmly in place. Lisa said I could easily go
two more weeks on an install! Being able to go eight weeks
between sew-ins was my goal, so I am more than happy with the
results of this method.
Lisa was so gentle in taking
the braids down. I could tell that there was no damage to my
own hair. I had colored my roots and given myself a good
shampooing and conditioning before my appointment so the whole
process of takedown and reinstallation took less than two
hours! Lisa doesn’t charge for taking the hair out, so I’m
going to end up spending two hours and $195 every eight weeks
to have perfect hair!
I love having NO stickiness or
damage to my own hair. It is so great not to have to deal with
making clean parts, cleaning wefts, doing mid-install repairs,
and worrying if something is going to fall out of my head in
the shower. I love my Russian hair. http://www.russianhair.net/ wefts and Lisa’s
braids make a teeny-tiny little bump that is much more
comfortable and unnoticeable than any of the adhesive methods
were. It is like a little piece of string wrapped around my
head. Now I’m excited for the summer to come! I can wear a
high ponytail with NO worries about wefts showing and can jam
clips right through the bonds to hold up an up-do without
messing up the install or having a sticky mess. And I can even
swim if I want to!
Here is a picture of my hair with
sew-in number two:

More expensive, yes, but so much smaller and flatter.

Well, my
experience is a LONG story... but the short version is that I
had some odd things happen with the customer service (another
story), and, although the machine-wefting is perfectly nice
for what it is, I discovered later from my braider that for a
sew-in, hand-tied is so much better. I do blame myself
somewhat for not figuring this out prior to deciding who was
going to weft my Russian hair.
I think the hype that EP machine-wefting was given me
by ..., who is an experienced weave-wearer, led me to
believe that it was the right choice for my sew-in. She was
the one who referred me to EP. When I placed my order with EP
I wasn't offered a choice about which kind of weft my hair
would be wefted into. It was annoying later when ... told me
she could have gotten EP to do hand-tied for me if I had just
"gone through" her
with my order. I'm ending up replacing a bunch of the Russian hair I'd just bought that
was already installed and trimmed, and re-wefting (with a big
loss in length) another part.

I think EP will hand tie
anyones hair!! I have not had their hand tied wefts yet but I
have not had any
problems with the machine wefts I have!!! I think for what I
needed they did a great job! but again everyone has different
needs. _________________ Russian hair two rows double

They did a fine job with my
hair, too. The problem I had was as much my fault as anything
because I was under the impression I had no choice but to have
the hair machine-wefted. I should have asked more questions
before committing to the one option I was presented. Being the
perfectionist that I am, finding that there was a better
option for my sew-ins after having all that beautiful hair
wefted really sucked. But I'm the kind of consumer who thinks,
"live and learn." http://www.russianhair.net/ is re-wefting the hair for me as well
as making me some nice hand-tied micro-wefts for my next
install. I sure won't make that mistake
again! | |

But then again, .... It works if
you buy not so cheap hair and want it to last long. If you buy
cheap stuff and want to experiment with Protac, Acetone,
Orange Oil, you name it..., machine wefts are just fine for
that! | |

You know why it's more expensive?
Because to make that good of a weft, 11" standard, costs
$38.50. And the Lady who makes them is the best of the best in
USA, take my word for that, I have seeing them all.

Well, I've never seen
any other hand-tied wefts but yours, but I can say that
they're amazing! Brava to you and your
wefter! | |

I can only vouch for my own experience, but I've got
to say that Indian hair never worked perfectly for me. I was
always trying to put more product on it to sleek it down and
make it more shiny and like mine. With this Russian hair I can
literally go 5 days without a shampoo, get up in the morning,
brush it out, and look GREAT all day! No blending worries, no
special products. For me, the best part of the hair is how
soft it is. I truly cannot tell where the Russian hair ends
and mine begins. I go have a sew-in every 8 weeks, and only
have the wefts out of my hair for a few minutes. I can finally
pretend I was BORN with this hair!
I can attest to
only having the best of experiences with www.russianhair.net Good luck to you with this hair, and let us
know how it goes, okay? _________________
